For the 19th consecutive year, the UN's three committees have adopted resolutions expressing concern about the human rights situation in North Korea and calling for improvements. This year's resolution included words that seem to point to the human rights harms in North Korea caused by China's forced repatriation of North Korean defectors. "In light of the resumption of border movements, we strongly urge all Member States to respect the fundamental principle of non-refoulement," the resolution mentioned. It also included a statement calling for compliance with the UN Convention Against Torture. We pray that the injustices perpetrated against North Koreans and North Korean defectors will cease and that lives will be saved by hearing the gospel.
"4 My dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the Spirit who lives in the world.
9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.( 1 John 4:4,9, NLT)
We lift up the people of North Korea who are being denied their freedom in a country that is like a giant prison. We pray to God to break the power of unreasonable controls, punishments, and injustices that violate the human rights of North Koreans who have been repatriated. We also ask that no matter what their circumstances, they will have the opportunity to hear the gospel and come to know the saving love and grace of Jesus.
In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen!
