Dear Prayer warriors,
As the new year has begun including the Lunar’s New Year, we are connecting in various ways to North Korea to bring bibles and other encouragement to believers in every province enduring persecution. Our field missionaries and staff are activated and utilizing all means of communication available. To encourage our prayer partners, below is translated Isaac’s personal letter about bible delivery:
I saw God at work!
At my accommodation in Hong Kong, I encountered numerous Bible deliverers. I think there were about ten bunk beds in the narrow room. There was only one bathroom and no kitchen to prepare meals. Most of them were Americans, Australians, and New Zealanders who had come across the Pacific, with nothing more than a bag and few clothes. They traveled to China carrying their bags of bibles from dawn to dusk, following the guidance of a local worker in Hong Kong. These hardy workers included young people who had just graduated from high school, and many older people who had retired. On the surface, they are tourists. But their ultimate goal is to smuggle bibles into the hands of persecuted believers. Some traveled to and from Shenzhen or Gwangzhou, while others traveled to places such as Shanghai or Beijing to deliver bibles. Impromptu meals were usually consumed on the street.
A familiar Australian brother asked me, “Where are we going this time?”
“To the same place,” I answered.
“You mean where you speak your language?”
”Yep!” I answered again
“Can we go with you?” he asked.
“How many people came with you?”
“Sixteen! They come from Australia and New Zealand.”
“How much can you deliver?”
“As much as you want.”
Among them were also a young couple I taught when I was working at a Korean church in Los Angeles. They had contacted me saying they wanted to go to a mission field for their honeymoon. And now the total number of people I spoke to, including Australians and New Zealanders, was 20. Each person had filled a 50kg (110 lbs) bag. The bags totaled over a ton (2,200 pounds). Some even crumpled up their bibles in their bags, to allow the maximum. We then traveled all the way across mainland China with our bags of bibles to arrive at the border with North Korean opposite Sinuiju.
God has repeatedly enabled me and protected me through difficult times. God has used me to put a Bible into the hands of each His children enduring persecution. After our ton of bibles were delivered, the Korean-Chinese person who had taken care of our luggage went on to became a pastor, and the friend who accompanied him at length also became a pastor. They were not at first believers, but they took the first steps toward faith by participating in our bible delivery to earn some income. The Australian brother also became a pastor and dedicated his life to God for missionary work in North Korea.
I have been asked “Why did you become a pastor?” “I saw God at work! “I just wanted to do that work for 39 years because I had confidence in God’s work that He called us to do.” Most of the sixteen brothers and sisters who hung their laundry on the bed to dry in a shabby guesthouse were retired smugglers in their 60s. The bibles they delivered were all delivered to Korean-Chinese people first before it went to North Korea. This work of underground bible deliverance was back in 1986. The people who later participated in the LNK ‘88 (Love North Korea) event in 1988 were the people I met at this time. Now everyone who participated in bible delivery is praising the Lord.
Is there anyone out there who is waiting for the day to come and deliver a Bible to that land even just once? I pray for the day when we can go together too. God works never ends and it continues among those who truly believe living God is in action.
Along with this letter we have attached seven days prayer for the month of March. Please follow this prayer guide one a day to spiritually support the delivery activities and missionary work of Cornerstone Ministries International. Our ministry has five delivery ministries and prayer was written following these deliveries:
Bible Delivery
Seminary Delivery,
Missionary Delivery,
Church Delivery,
Humanitarian Support Delivery
Our prayer is that these deliveries reach North Korea, mainland China, and other Gospel-restricting countries.
His unworthy servant,
Isaac and Peter, Your brothers in Christ
