Dear Prayer warriors,
Time has lapsed. It is already August. Our ministry has been busy to bring Bibles to North Korea and China. His mercy and works never stopped. During hot summer day, you will hear what God’s people are doing without being fear of death as they believe “eternity with Jesus”
I have sent a message using a phone
“Mother, you must listen to me. There is God, and only if we believe in Him, we go to heaven even after we die. The life in North Korea has been terrible, but there is peace in heaven. Originally, we were to die and go to hell because of our sins, but God sent His only Son to die on the cross to absolve us of our sins. That person is Jesus, and He rose again on the third day.”
Jung-Shim (pseudonym) heard the Gospel from her younger sister who do not believe God herself. Jung Shim did not know what it meant when she first heard the Gospel, and she just answered "So?" in a half-hearted way. However, those words got into Jung-Shim’s heart. As Jung-Shim decided to leave North Korea, Jung-Shim had to depend on something or someone. So she began to seek some Supreme Power. At length she miraculously came to the South Korea that she dreamed of, overcoming death many times. She was overwhelmed and could not believe how she was able to come to South Korea safely.
Then she heard, “So many people have prayed to God for you to come safely to South Korea. God listened to our prayers, so we are happy and grateful to see you in person.” It was then that Jung-Shim realized that many believers had been praying for her. Since then, she has become a true and genuine believer. Then, Jung-Shim has worked diligently to share the gospel with her family in North Korea by phone. First she called her mother, “Ommonni (mother) now you must believe in God so that you will have eternal life in heaven.” North Korean refugees connect with family members in the north by phone although each conversation is normally limited to few minutes as a precaution to avoid being caught by electronic eavesdroppers working for the Ministry of Social Security in North Korea.
Jung-Shim continued. After two calls mother replied loudly, “My daughter, don’t say any more. I now believe in God. I also believe in going to heaven and meeting God. So, when I meet people in my neighborhood these days, I tell them that they must believe in God to go to heaven.” Jung-Shim was overjoyed to hear that her elderly mother has become a child of God. “The townsfolk do not accuse you?” Jung Shim was surprised and asked. Mother responded over phone loudly, “No problem, people would say that that old lady is senile, so she says things like that.”
However, I recently got in touch with a neighbor who had heard the gospel from my mother. “Jung-Shim, I have a very difficult problem right now, please help. Your mother shared the Words that should not be spoken in this land. She boastfully speaks the Gospel in public.” She says things like “Nothing is impossible with God. Miracles happen when you believe in God”. And she keeps saying in public, “God will protect you.” Jung-Shim, if she does not stop her, she will be accused and the government will put her to death.”
So I sent message a phone message to Mother to stop sharing the Gospel in public places. Mother replied, "If I die I will be heaven with the Lord." My mother had no fear of death. So I responded her text message saying, “Yes, God is the one who protects you and gives you rest from your tribulation, so that neither the sun by day nor the moon by night can harm you.” Then, she boldly asked me to send her many video clips to depict the Word along with song through phone line. Mother said that when God's Word and praises along with videos are shown, an amazing work is taking place where families in North Korea accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. She was not in fear, but brave with knowing she will be in heaven. She even pointed to me 2 Timothy 2:9, as Paul said “For the sake of the gospel, like a sinner I suffered to the point of imprisonment, but the word of God is not bound.”
I have shared a story of existing believers in North Korea. These are living underground believers today. At Jung-Shim's request, we have prepared many short videos of Scripture and praise songs. We are sharing these materials to other North Koreans. Please pray along with us to build His church as I have listed on attached a weekly prayer for this month. God’s work has not stopped and the activities of church in North Korea has not ceased.
We thank you for continual support and prayer as you have done over years unceasingly.
Faithfully,
Isaac and Peter, Your brothers in Christ
p.s. North Pyongan Province, in the northwestern-most part of North Korea, has suffered heavy flooding as a result of Typhoon Gaemi's visit. The provincial capital of Sinuiju and neighboring locales have incurred much housing and infrastructure damage, as well as at least 1000 to as many as 10,000 people dead or missing (you may watch AP news https://apnews.com/article/north-korea-flooding-409cb4fb8e506fadf4451104a7bd1912). We are trying to move food into the worst affected areas and helping our brothers and sisters. Our biggest immediate challenge is to avoid more than 35 percent of the foodstuffs we bring in being taken as transportation and other costs. It can easily be as much as 65 percent thusly lost. Prayers that our missions of mercy are not unduly hit!
