Suicidal incidents are occurring one after another among North Korean trade workers sent to China. Last year, it only occurred intermittently, but this year it's happening every month. The reason for this increase is that the North Korean authorities are forcing them to earn foreign currency without considering the business slump due to the prolonged Covid-19 crisis. A source from Daily NK explained that many expatriates fear the punishment they would get if they fail to earn the money to pay the authorities. Many eventually commit suicide not being able to bear the stress. We pray that the North Korean trade workers will meet God and find hope in Jesus.
“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
We pray for North Koreans working abroad. Amid the worsening business environment due to COVID-19, more and more people are choosing to end their lives, unable to overcome the burden of earning money for the North Korean authorities. We pray that those who are suffering in the depths of despair will meet the God of life instead of being dragged down to death. We pray that they will discover hope and comfort in Jesus and be the blessed ones who preach salvation and persevere in faith.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
