As North Korean media sources regularly report, attempts to escape North Korea continue. North Koreans are willing to take this high risk in face of the reality that their livelihoods would mean, for many, a degrading, death-like existence.
"In August, the Ministry of Social Security proclaimed that people or animals illegally entering the buffer zone between North Korea and China would be “fired upon” without warning."
On December 9, another order was sent out to kill all street cats, according to NK Daily, due to the possibility that the cats could carry the coronavirus with them from China into North Korea. Many North Koreans see this as an irrational move on the part of their government and just another example of North Korea's contempt for life.
"Some are asking why cats would even come to North Korea because 'there’s not even enough food for people' to eat."
God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: "How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked." They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. Psalm 82:1-5
Father God, we pray that the light of Your divine counsel and just ways would come down upon North Korea and shine into every dark corner. Bring those who have no knowledge or understanding into the light of Your presence. Even in the midst of darkness and fear, give the North Korean church the boldness to preach the love of Christ to those who are lost and despairing. Shine Your light through Your people, watch over them, and show this nation that you are God! In the name of Jesus, Amen.
