North Korea is changing so rapidly. And we must plant and water the seed that is the Word of God in order for God to make it grow in North Korea. I would like to share the following story from the mission field that I shared in my prayer letter during Thanksgiving 2015.
She waited for corn to grow and returned to North Korea.
One day, this old woman heard a voice. “Go back to North Korea! Return to North Korea when corn has grown!” It was loud and clear. If she returns, she will be found guilty of traveling without travel certificate and cross the border illegally. Not to mention, she will be sent to political prison if they found out that she received Christian faith training. She may even be tortured to death for being a Christian. Yet, calling from God was so clear that she could not remain comfortable in China.
She waited for corn to grow and then she returned to North Korea. In spite of beatings, torturing, and martyrdom that she could face, she was deeply committed to obey God. Before the corn fully matured, something happened to her. Words she read in the Bible came alive and she was able to memorize the entire chapters. When she spoke, all the words came out effortlessly as if she was speaking in tongues. In addition, God had given her gift of healing and prophecy. She may stay in China ministering to Korean-Chinese people or North Koreans in the mountains where they are hiding even though it is illegal to remain in China. There is also need to help these people too. Yet, she was to follow the voice.
Her time of departure from China arrived. She packed her bags with bibles, radio, and some gifts to give to her family and relatives. She did not cry during her departure, but rather held a bold and determined face. She knows that even if she voluntarily confessed to the police, sentencing may minimize, but she still will go through long interrogation. Without knowing how police or board patrol will treat her she returned to North Korea. She is part of our Joseph Project where North Korean leaders are trained in China. While she was praying, God softly spoke to her that she was to cross the border during daylight. This is most foolish thing to do. We told her not to do that. Yet, she obeyed God. She walked without bending. In few minutes she disappeared. In hot summer day, we saw full grown corns across the border where we could not see her from China side.
We have not heard from her since. Only thing we know that she is somewhere in North Korea and sharing what God has done in her life. She will share her faith with her family and relatives. She is either in prison or home town proclaiming the Gospel. Sometimes it takes few months to few years to hear the result.
Please pray along with us that God will protect her to bring the Gospel message and to help the church to grow.
